Welcome to September! In Room 1, we are continuing to work in our core curriculum along with adding some fun activities.
Math: We will be doing Lessons 14 and 16 this week as well as reviewing lessons from the past few weeks in preparation for our Module 1 test which will be next week. (exact date TBD) . This test will be all about decimals; rounding, place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. A quiz was taken on 9/3 to see where there were still gaps in our understanding and I will be working in small groups with students to bridge those gaps.
Writing: We will continue to use picture books as mentor texts as we work on our first draft of our small moment narrative writing. These picture books will help students learn to convey emotions, build characters, and share feelings as they expand on what they have already written.
Reading: In book clubs this week, students will be acting out a scene from the book they are reading with their group. This means that students will take time at home to practice as opposed to writing in their journals. Students will then practice with their groups in class to prepare for their presentation on Friday.
Social Emotional Learning (SEL): This week, we will be reading our CLR book of the month A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo. Our trait for this month is Friendship, which this book conveys, and we will continue to do activities based on this trait in our weekly meetings throughout the month of September.
Technology: In class each morning, students use their chromebooks to complete an exit ticket from the math lesson they learned the day before. I believe having students work on their chromebook to see and solve math problems throughout the year makes them better equipped to use technology for testing later down the line. Along with this, we will be doing a Common Sense Media lesson about Cyberbullying on Friday through a technology app called Peardeck.
