Week of October 7

Updated: Oct 14, 2019

Happy Conference Week!

Math: This week in Math we will be continuing in Module 2 with Lessons 23-27. These lessons include long division with decimals. This means we will no longer be using remainders.

Writing: We will continue to use Writeable for our Narrative writing unit and plan to finish these essays by the end of next week. I am so excited for you to see their finished products! We have also begun to use a website called "No Red Ink" as a means to learn grammar. We are currently working on Adverbs and Adjectives.

Reading: Students will continue reading their new book club book chosen by them. For this round of book clubs students will be doing fishbowl discussions and acting scenes out just as they did with the previous book club. We will also be adding two new aspects; students will create a song to the tune of a popular (school appropriate) song of their choice about their book as well as creating a diorama at the end of book clubs. Students have really begun to have in depth and meaningful conversations through book clubs. We also finished reading Holes as a read aloud and we have started reading Home of the Brave. For this book, we will be discussing "Sign Posts" (places to stop and think about the book) along with figurative language including similes, idioms, metaphors, and learning about theme! Beginning this week, students will start create short childrens books based on different themes given to them to help learn the difference between themes and topics.

History: Students will continue to work with their group on creating a board game for their region of Native Americans. Each group of students will research their region and create a board game to teach the other groups about their specific region. Once all games are done, we will have a day where the students will rotate around the room playing the other groups games to learn about each region.

Other Info: Please remember, students ARE expected to attend their conference. Lastly, please sign up to volunteer for our class booth at the school carnival on October 18th.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. I hope you all have a wonderful week!
