Math: This week in Math we will be working on Module 3 Lessons 7-11. We are working on fractions in this unit focusing on adding, subtracting, and making equivalent fractions.
Writing: We have finished our Narrative Unit of study... YAY! This week, we will begin a mini- unit on Journalism. When students walked into the room this morning, our classroom was destroyed. They were asked to take note of what they saw in the room. We will discuss how to write a journalism piece that allows room for readers to create their own opinion based on the facts given by the writer. This will then lead into our Information Unit of Study.
** I was the one who messed up the classroom but I did not tell the students this! Some are suspicious though. One even wrote, "Miss Brown's desk is clean, nothing missing, nothing messed up, interesting." We will see how long I can keep my cover!
Reading: We will continue reading Home of the Brave. For this book, we will be discussing "Sign Posts" (places to stop and think about the book) along with figurative language including similes, idioms, metaphors, and learning about theme! This week, students will finish creating short children's books based on different themes given to them to help learn the difference between themes and topics. Students will also be finishing their dioramas for book club this week. Next week, we will begin our Non- Fiction reading unit.
History: After finishing our Explorer unit with Epitaphs and Gravestones for different Explorers last week, we will move onto "The Fight for a Continent" unit. The project for this unit will involve students writing diaries as if they were either native american children or children who traveled over from Europe and documenting the events that occured.
Other Info: This week is Ability Awareness Week at Twin Creeks. This will involve lessons throughout the week on people with different abilities. Please turn your Camp Arroyo forms in ASAP, these are due November 11th but may be submitted any time before then.
