Week of September 16

Math: This week in Math we will be continuing in Module 2 with Lessons 6, 9, 10, and 11. Module 1 Tests will be coming home today (Monday) with homework being to redo each of the problems students missed. Our class average for this test was 26/31, GREAT JOB!!

Writing: We will continue to use picture books as mentor texts as we work on our first draft of our small moment narrative writing. These picture books will help students learn to convey emotions, build characters, and share feelings as they expand on what they have already written. This week, we will also continue guided peer editing. Students will pair up and will be given specific items to look for within their partners texts. Once this portion of peer editing is complete, each student will return to their own writing and edit their own based on peer and teacher feedback. We will do this several times over the next few weeks.

Reading: Book clubs finished last Friday and students will be creating a "commercial" using AdobeSpark to promote and encourage others to read their books without giving too much away. For our next round of book clubs, students will be in smaller groups to promote more meaningful and in depth conversations. These groups were given the opportunity to research a certain set of books and decide which book they wanted to read with their group. My goal by doing this was to generate excitement and choice within their reading and book clubs!

History: This week we will continue working on our project for Unit 1. Students have been put into groups and each group was given a different region of Native Americans. Each group of students will research their region and create a board game to teach the other groups about their specific region. Once all games are done, we will have a day where the students will rotate around the room playing the other groups games to learn about each region.

Other Info: Burning Food Lab put on by Mrs. Dees is 9/27, we still need 2 more parents to help with this as well. Thank you all for getting the Lawrence Livermore Lab permission slips in so quickly! Conferences are approaching quickly, please sign up for a slot if you have not done so already.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me. I hope you all have a wonderful week!
