Week of August 26

Updated: Sep 3, 2019

As we move into the third week of school, we will begin to dig deeper into our curriculum.

In Math this week, we will begin multiplying and dividing decimals. Please don't worry if your child struggles with this initially, decimals are a difficult concept that they have never worked this extensively with before.

During book clubs this week, we will be doing "Fishbowl Discussions." This is when a group will sit on the carpet while the rest of the class sits on the outside and listens to their discussion. The class will then give feedback about what the group did well while discussing their book.

In Writing, we will begin to move away from the planning portion of our Narrative Writing pieces and start crafting our stories. We will continue to use mentor texts as examples of what good small moment writing looks like.

In our class meeting on Wednesday, we will discuss something called "The Ten Second Rule." Essentially, this rule is used to help students decide whether or not they should mention something would be beneficial to someone else; If someone can't fix something in ten seconds, you don't need to mention it. Some examples are: If someone has food in their teeth, mention it! However, if you don't like another student's hair color... they can't change that in ten seconds so we shouldn't mention it. We will be discussing different scenarios and deciding which side of the rule the situations fall under.

Thank you to those of you who signed up to help with Native American day on 9/16 and to help drive to Lawrence Livermore Lab on 10/15! If you did not sign up (or don't remember if you did) and you would like to help out, please email me for more details. Along with this, please begin the process of being cleared through Be A Mentor. I will be reaching out to those of you who signed up at Back to School Night within the next week to confirm.

Lastly, this week please take some time with your student to go over our Twin Creeks School Handbook.

After you have gone over this, please fill out the the "Acknowledgement" form (sent home with students) which is due by Friday.

As always, if you have any questions please email me and I will be happy to answer them!
