Week of August 19

I hope everyone enjoyed their first week back at school! This week we hit the ground running with our core curriculum and begin Math, Writing, and Reading. Math begins today (Monday) with Module 1 Lesson 5 discussing standard, word, expended, and unit form of decimals. We will be doing lessons 5, 6, and 7 from Module 1 as well as review to make sure concepts are grasped. Please see the "Resources" section if you would like to watch videos explaining the lessons. Writing begins with our Personal Narrative Writing Unit which we discussed today. We read the book The Harmonica by Tony Johnston to help us begin gathering ideas for our "small moment" writing. Lastly, Book Clubs begin today with our first meetings in our groups tomorrow. Today, each student was given their book and tonight they will read the designated amount of chapters (decided on by them and their group) as well as answer a question with a 5 sentence response in their reading journals. By doing these two things, they ensure they are ready for the meetings with their peers the next day to discuss what they read the night before. If you have any questions, please email me :)
